Superb

Well written and to the point. It's getting a little dated, but well worth the time to read. The strength of this work is Meyer’s lifelong use of the expository method. It is evident that he understands how to do it and how to preach using the sermon generated. The sample expositions provide ample evidence of how well text is fleshed out using the expository means, including a high number of contemporary issues touched by the text. The exposition of Matthew 6:22 titled “The Intention of the Soul” is an outstanding example of an exposition (Meyer, 98-103). It includes all of the elements of expounding scripture and an application for three kinds of men. The application is drawn from the scripture text, using illustrations from familiar religious history.
A weakness of Meyer’s work is the lack of discussion concerning the different methods of presenting a sermon, including the varieties of homiletics. An inclusion of a brief framework in which the expository sermon is compared and contrasted to the other two major categories of sermons (subject matter centered such as doctrinal or Evangelistic; and structural development or Problem-solution centered) would be helpful. Additionally, it would be useful for the full spectrum of homiletic types—including topical, textual, and expository—were listed

I really like F.B. Meyer. But this book has terrible print. Painful to read. Why do they call it a reprint when it's just a blown up copy of an old poorly printed book?

This book was fantastic. The book is a classic and the writing style speaks volumes in regards to the information handed down to the reader/student. With several sections of expository preaching samples, the reader can explore more effectively the ideas and principles of preaching with direction and understanding that are unparalleled. This book is a masterpiece for any minister looking to preach or teach.
