About the Author
Dr. H. Eddie Fox, of Nashville, Tennessee, is one of Methodism's foremost evangelists. He has been director of the World Methodist Evangelism office of the World Methodist Council since 1987. His efforts at linking Methodists through the ""Connecting Congregations"" program have resulted in some 140 such New Testament-model partnerships between established churches and newly formed congregations. He also directs the activities of 16 regional evangelists worldwide and has been a strong advocate of training indigenous people to reach their fellow citizens with the gospel.
Dr. George E. Morris has pastored United Methodist churches in the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference since 1984. He was educated at Asbury College and Vanderbilt University and is the author of 6 books, including Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say So! and Faith-Sharing: Dynamic Christian Witnessing by Invitation (both with H. Eddie Fox). Among his honors are the Owen Prize for Excellence in the field of Old Testament Studies. The Harry Denman Lectureship, 1986 and the Harry Denman Evangelism Award, 1997. Since 1993, Dr. Morris has been Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Peoria, Illinois.

A great book for a well gtounded evangelical Christian reader. But not for the novice without guidance.

This book should be thought of as a text book. It should be considered advanced Christian layman's study material.
I was fortunate enought to have taken a seminar led by its author and am now teaching faith-sharing to others using this as a textbook. Any biblically knowledgable Evangelical Christian should have no problen understanding it and will find it very useful and informative, but "babes in Christ, or those with little Bible study under their belt are best off using the book as part of a class taught by a more seasoned and more knowedgeable Christian.

We have three basic commands from Christ, and one of them is to share the faith to save the lives of others

Sharing the faith is hard in this day and age. People of faith tend to stick together and we are not well trained on how to share the faith with friends, acquaintances and strangers. This is an excellent 'how to' manual that provides the means and motivation for getting out there and saving souls! Well organized, well written, and very readable.

Informative. This is required reading for me but has been quite interesting and factual. It sheds further biblical perspective in an area needed in Kingdom building today. I would recommend this book for support, learning and understanding about faith-sharing and Christian witnessing -- Evangelism.

Into the Mind of Hollywood's Most Original Director

I bought this book wanting to know a bit more about one of my favorite directors, and I got much more in return. Burton writes about his life as a child growing up in Burbank, California, from his time at CalArts in Valencia, his stay at Disney, and the launching of his own directorial stardum. The forward, which is written by Johnny Depp, tells of their first acquaintance, and almost instantaneous partnership.

Burton really does go through much detail of his life, both in career and personal aspects, and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Certainly a must for Burton fans, but also for anyone interested in knowing more about the creative genius behind such unforgettable masterpieces.

The Man, The Myth, The Legend... THE BOOK.

As one can tell, not only am I truly a Tim Burton fan, but I am also a fan of this well put together ensemble of musings from a person I believe is one of the greatest director's and cinematic visionaries of his time. So in one sense, one might say that I could be biased that I am already a Burton fan. However, as an avid book reader, the subject matter is extremely intriguing and the editorial precise and unbiased.

I think the thing I liked most about this book, is that an overwhelming percentage of the text are in Burton's own words. The editor wraps this nicely in a very smooth flowing readable arch without making many presumptions as to what Burton himself might be thinking. Honestly, this is one book I couldn't, and didn't, put down and it was an extremely satisfying read.

Even as a true "Burtonite", I found myself learning all sorts of interesting little details and insights about the man, that I otherwise would not have garnered on my own. The series of these books have been a gold-label of fascinating reads on directors from all sorts of styles and genres, so it is not surprising that their editor selection is impeccable.

The books covers everything from Burton's idolization of greats like Roger Corman, Vincent Price, Ray Harryhausen and the early Hammer Films. It covers his simple beginnings in the often paradoxical suburbs of Burbank, his "imprisonment" in the Disney system, disdain for the major studio system and ultimate serendipitous events which lead up to him being one of the most highly sought after and most successful directors of our time. On a deeply humanistic note, it delves into his need to connect with something on a personal level on each film he does, his close personal relationships with Johnny Depp, Lisa Marie and Helena Bohnam Carter, among others, and his perception on estrangement with his parents. The book goes on to thoroughly review each of Burton's features which included what he was thinking during all stages of production, including many illustrations often by Burton himself. Finally it sums of his preference to reuse many cast and crew including (but by no means limited too) Christopher Lee, Danny Devito, Rick Heinrichs, Collen Atwood, Chris Lebenzon and Danny Elfman, which is detailed further with explanation of his dislike for verbal communication. Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, there are some very intimate moments in this novel from Burton's perspective including his disheartening with the tabloids over rumors of an affair with Helena Bohnam Carter on the set of "Planet of the Apes", his discouragement with the studio system especially in terms of the "Batman" and "Superman" franchises and dealing with the suicide of his friend and "Batman" corroborator, Production Designer Anton Furst.

The back jacket of the book says it succinctly in a quote from Empire "A must for fans", but I beg to differ. This book is not only a must for fans, but anyone looking for a little contemporary documentation on a fascinating individual who is truly one of a kind, despite what you think of his particular brand of aesthetics.

Like its subject... dark, involved, and challenging

If you've seen Tim Burton in a broadcast interview, chances are that you know that he is not the most fluid of speakers, and for this reason I approached this extended interview with trepidation. However, beneath the sombre dust-jacket is an energetic and lively human being, who infuses the most simplistic life experiences with an infectious enthusiasm which makes this book an absolute joy.
The prose simply sparkles with intelligence, and probably just scratches the surface of his brilliance. Burton impresses with his underlying sense of artistic integrity, but amazes with his heartfelt discussions about art and character. He wants you to share the sense of fun that these experiences have given him, and speaks passionately on many aspects of life. Here is someone not afraid to relate the most pedantic details if he considers them to have impacted his vision, and this is where the book excels most. In many ways, the talk about his actual films is comparatively mundane when compared to recollections of the experiences that shaped them.
Topped off with a selection of Burton's distinctive artwork, this is a fine addition to the library of any movie fan, and it will leave you in awe of one of a cinematic talent that defies categorisation. In the foreword, Johnny Depp calls Burton a genius, and having read the man's take on the world, I think that it's a label I wouldn't argue with. This book is an exemplary example of the interview form, and proof that the best medium for preserving discussion will always be the written page.

This has become my favorite deck.

I enjoy collecting Tarot decks and happened on this by accident. . .I'd surfed onto a wicca web page and it was the featured deck of the week or something. I bought it with no great expectation--I just thought the "Techno Pagan" theme was different than any of the themes in my collection. My first impression of the Cosmic Tribe was that the colors are extremely vibrant and beautiful, and that the art is simply phenomenal and unique. Very psychedelic. My reaction to the nudity and the use of photographs of real people was mixed. I don't mind the nudity, but at first the use of real people as opposed to drawn or painted people sort put me off. Initially this technique seemed to make the images less archtypal and more personal. Ultimately though, it's this very personalization of the deck that lends it much of its charm and power. Postman's selection of models are so apt for each particular card that they bring to life the meaning and personality of the cards in a way I've not experienced with any other decks. I'm a typical media influenced American male with certain preconceived notions of physical beauty, but despite this, Postmans choice of setting, use of light and color and choice of models makes the whole gamut of body shapes beautiful--I don't think I've ever so appreciated the nude human form. The inclusion of three Lover's cards--gay,lesbian, and hetero is a big plus. Judging on aesthetics alone, this deck is a must have--it must be seen to be appreciated. It is so beautiful you can be lost in it for hours. Above and beyond the superficial though, this deck's symbolism is so apt, so meaningful, so instantly intuitive that it has become my favorite for actual use in readings. It is very similar to Crowley's Thoth deck, but with more relevant and modern symbolism. Postman's deck is both deep AND easy to use. My only criticism is that the accompanying book is some what of the fluffy new-age self help feel good type, as opposed to Crowley's more scholarly "Book of Thoth". However, as far as fluffy new-age tarot books go, its actually pretty good, and anyway, there is nothing wrong with the occasionally fluffy sap in one's life. In the books favor, it does offer some interesting ideas for readings and meditations. All in all, this is a must have deck.

Beautiful and Meaningful

My fear was that this would be a "politically correct" gimmick deck.

My criteria for a deck are beauty and authenticity. Some authentic decks, like "Tarot of Ceremonial Magick", are so lacking in aesthetic charm that they are, for me, unuseable.

This deck is really beautiful, true to the meaning of the cards, and very useable. They continue the tarot tradition authentically, without imitating other decks. It's truly a joy to have this deck--and I am a tarot lover and collector.

This is a refreshing new take on the world of medicine. It explains many uncertainties that exist and how to talk to your doctor. The patient stories bring it to life and make for a very interesting read.

Informative Book, for Patients OR Doctors

"What Doctors Cannot Tell You" is very worthwhile for a patient facing a big (or little) medical decison. It is also very valuable for physicians to read, as it provides valuable guidance for how to discuss very difficult topics, with a variety of patients. I am a physician who entered the field believing that patients would want to be fully informed, so that they can then make their own health decisions. While that is often true, it is not always true, and some patients still want the physician to take the authority position, and recommend one particular course of treatment. This book illustrates conversations with many different types of patients.

Dr. Jones depicts the difficulties that befall anyone who desires to make decisions based on 'facts.' Sometimes these facts are just not available. Often, all one has to work with is limited information in textbooks or journals. This book identifies those types of situations, and suggest practicle strategies.

Most of all, Kevin Jones shows that he is a human being, and his patients are human beings, in additioni to their roles as doctor and patient. His book, written in an informal, conversational style, humanizes sometimes horrific situations that occur in the medical office and hospital. This humanity (concern for people, including sensitivity to their emotional lives) is the dominant feature of this book, for me.

Dr. Kevin Jones has authored an excellent book providing thorough explanations justifying the uncertainty in medicine. At the end of each chapter, he provides thought-provoking questions to enhance communication between the patient and their personal physician.
Considering the time constraints felt by PMD's, I believe it is more realistic to attempt to achieve the type of relationship Dr. Jones describes, primarily with specialists, as himself.
As a healthcare professional, one would only hope to aspire to achieve the depth of candor, integrity, honesty and compassion of Dr. Jones.
" What was known was told. What wasn't yet known was acknowledged. Comfort was given."
"I have no power to change the ongoing uncertainty in my patients' situations. I will be the one to tell them about it. I will be the one to teach them what we can do about it. I will do my best to help them understand what lie ahead and will witness with them their future unfolding."

About the Author

In the mid 1980s the opportunity arose for Michael Palmer to work as a technician in the printing industry.  Throughout the 1990s he wrote short sketches and one liners for a variety of shows on BBC radio and ITV, before concentrating on writing projects.  Michael has had a lifelong interest in cars - Alvis, Bentley and Jaguar in addition to Morgan.  Michael can be spotted regularly on the Kent roads at the wheel of his royal ivory 1997 Morgan 4/4.
